Travel help

I always save links with the intention to post a blog but later forgotten to email back. These links are actually quite good. Let's start with travel.

I love to visit Peru. Love to hike the trail because this is like a once in a lifetime. You wouldn't go there more than once. First, it is expensive to fly there and second, normally you only visit a place once and third, it is quite far.

This link here will give you few tips on how to save while on holiday. Obviously you don't want to be broke by the time your holiday ends.

But before you go, you should research for cheapest air fares. This link on truth about budget airliners should help with the research too.

While you are on holiday, these link and link should help with watching out for scams. Sometimes you can't avoid them but just have a read somehow.

If you are looking for island getaways, this link might help.

2008 Dec-2009 Jan - Doha(Qatar)

Let me see. I think I flew off to Doha beginning of December to spend my summer holidays with family. I also got to see Doha for the first time. Doha is the capital city of Qatar and I think they do host a couple big events here from time to time. As a foreigner, we also have to respect the culture over there eg dress accordingly. We are not supposed to expose too much skin and yeah I understand that having growing up among variety of culture.

Some days, I stayed at home in the air-conditioning house. The gym was a minute walk from the house in the compound so I exercised daily. It was practically empty during mid-afternoons. Visited a couple of shopping malls while we were there too. They are huge and good to explore. I can't remember if I did lots of shopping though.

We also visited the sand dunes, I think it is about an hour and half drive away from where we were staying. Other than that, it was family time or catching up with other families to eat, either with the families living in the same residential compound or drive to the other residential compound where the other families lived.

I think visiting the middle east does open up my eyes a lot and made me appreciate things that I have which some others don't have.

October 2012 Malaysia-Boracay(Phillippines)-Cambodia

I think I have blogged about my holidays for 2012 October but I can't remember how much detail I put out. This time, it will be more about why the destination, how, when and what to do.

Boracay was fun though there are some annoying things eg locals harrassing us to get deals almost every time we walk on the beach strip from our hotel to the main centre. We decided to go for diving and I did my beginner and open water certificate. Dived during the day and my theory at night. I think it took me 5 days. I did 2 dives on the second last day because the weather was nice and I wasn't seasick. So yes, you would have to watch out if you are prone to sickness eg seasick. We had about 6 days before we flew back to KL. If you eat the local food, it's pretty cheap. We did other activities as well, not just diving. It just depends on what you want to do during your trip. We enjoyed our trip so much that we think we should have stayed longer.

When you choose your destination, think of what you want to do.

We flew to Cambodia 2 days after we got back from Boracay. Cambodia was totally different from Boracay. While Boracay is more of a beach holiday, Cambodia is more of city sight-seeing. We visited the temples, boat ride to see the villages on water and even donated to the poor village. How nice are we. We didn't really eat out at the local town though. Wish we did but I was dead tired and lazy to walk around. We both enjoyed it apart from the time when I ate too much for breakfast and ended up vomitting in the crowd. It was quite embarrassing. Two french tourists men were very nice to offer me water to wash my hands. I think I would be quite careful the next time.

We spent the rest of the time with my family and meeting up with relatives. Then it is back to reality.

January 2014 Queenstown-Dunedin-Christchurch

So I will start with the latest holiday I had. I would say this is a family holiday because it is mainly spending time with family while travelling in several towns in South Island. We started off from Christchurch (obviously since it is where hubby and I reside) and drive down to Dunedin. After settling into our holiday home and getting dinner ready that night, hubby and sis 2 went to pick up sis 1 from work.

Then, some of sis 1's friends came over to join us for dinner. Played games and chit-chatting that night. The following day, while sis 1 worked, we went off sight-seeing nearby.
NZ is generally a place for people who enjoy scenic views and perhaps trekking. I am not a fan of trekking so I would prefer to do something else. Funny in saying that, walking all day around in big cities is almost the same as trekking/hiking tracks now that I am thinking about it. The only difference I can say is you dress up for trekking but you don't when you walk/sight-seeing in big cities.

Anyway, we drove to Queenstown the following day, stopping in several towns for toilet stops and picking cherries.Once arrived in Queenstown, we checked in and went into town to shop for food so we could cook back in the apartment hotel. The next day was spent up the gondola. Same in the evening too. Visited Milford Sound the following day. I think it is a must if visit Queenstown. The views are absolutely beautiful. I bet that the surrounding areas are interesting to study on as I love geography.

The following day, we took our time driving back to Dunedin, stopping again to pick cherries. But this time, we found this cherry shop that sells seconds and they look absolutely awesome and cheap. If we wasn't driving around looking for cherry farm, we wouldn't have found the shop. Spent the following 2 days with sis and family before dropping both of them off at work and hostel and drove back to Christchurch.

The holiday ends with sending mummy off to airport on Monday as daddy already flew out the Saturday before.

Siem Reap

Siem Reap trip was a bit disappointing, at least for me. I mean, it was nice to see Angkor Wat and the other temples but the floating village was not a good idea. It was the first day of the trip when we visited floating village. I don't mind giving a little bit of the money away just to buy some rice for the orphans but not like a lot. I am not rich. That what makes me annoyed and spoils my time there.

To be honest, I would not go back there. Most of the things are in usd and that makes things more expensive. Sometimes I don't understand why they are still so poor when they are using usd. I know the rich are rich and the poor are poor and it is just the way of life.

Not much stories here because the trip wasn't that appealing. We did have some massage, body scrub at the hotel and enjoying ourselves at the hotel.

Philippines

Philippines trip was awesome despite the weather being hot and getting burnt. I enjoyed my diving experience because it was something new to me and it was really awesine to see fishes and the corals underwater. It is definitely a whole new experience because you are underwater.

Though we had to get up around same time as usual and going to bed early, it is fun experience something different and besides, food is cheap. We also did ATV driving to the highest place of the island to see the whole island.

I have the photos and videos up on facebook and for those who are friends of mine there can have a look. Those who are not, too bad and no, you shouldn't be viewing anyway because you don't know me. Lol, I am not mean, just that people who doesn't know me shouldn't be looking at them.

Travel Story

Not really overdue but it is the time for me to start summarising up my holiday trip. It was good fun and I don't think anyone ever wanted their holiday to end. I am already thinking about my next trip already. Lol

So we transit in Melbourne for 1 day and 2 nights before flying to the Philippines. I could have book direct from Melbourne to Philippines if I knew we were going to go there first. Sigh, lousy planning huh. I have to plan properly the next time. I shall have a calendar and things to go/do for my next trip. It was quite a long journey from Melbourne to Philippines because we had to transit in Clark before boarding the domestic flight to Boracay, our destination. Weather was really warm when we arrived. We spent about a week there. I shall elaborate more in the next post about what we did.

After a week, we flew back to KL and stayed with a friend for 2 nights before flying to Siem Reap in Cambodia. What we did and the stories, I shall put them in another post. =P We spent 3 days and flew back to KL on the fourth day. Stayed 2 nights in family friend house and another 2 nights with the same friend before we flew back to Miri, Sarawak. We stayed with my relatives' house for 4 nights before we met up with my parents in my hometown. More details in another post. Then, we followed parents driving back to Miri. Spent about 3 nights in Miri before we had to fly back to KL to catch the flight back to Melbourne.

Again, we stayed another night in Melbourne. We visited quite a bit of places that time and flew back to Chch at midnight. Arrived Chch on a Monday morning due to Jetstar changing our flight schedule last minute. Only got to rest for the morning before getting up to do groceries for the week. Tiring and jetlagged!! Started work the next day. I could hardly open my eyes in the afternoon. My manager was very nice to let me go home early to rest. I think it took me a week to get back into normal routines.

Palmy

Can't really see the word Palmerston North. Anyway, yes we went there over the weekend. We went there to see an expo and a friend who recently relocated to Chch. So yeah, we were there for one full day. Walked around the square there and to the park near the river. Nothing much though. When we arrived Friday night and started walking around, the square is quite empty. I was thinking, er.. it's Friday night, where are all the people?

cimg7679

Second photo is the square centre.

cimg7674

Obviously the square is full of shops but we didn't go shopping though. Just had a browse around the first evening. Saw a shop for Ladies Hats. Very nice. No I wasn't tempted to buy. Though I did buy a boots. I say it is for my birthday. Hehe.. I didn't have a black boots flat. I wore my brown boots to work the other day and darling said it doesn't fit with work clothes. So I wore my black heels from mummy and daddy. Gosh, by the end of the day, my feet felt sore. Really not a heels person.

Our Trip

I put up some photos in facebook and some were uploaded too. It's better to see it there if you want to see a bigger version. Anyway, I enjoy the trip very much even though it is pretty tiring to walk the trek and I didn't really get enough sleep.

The backpacker place was not too bad but the people who share the dorm room with us didn't switch off the lights and one of them snore. I didn't get woken up by the snore though. It was the lights. Yes, I cannot sleep with lights on and noise. But I think I would fall asleep eventually if I am super tired.

mt-cooknew-year2

mt-cooknew-year1

The views were super awesome. You should have seen the night sky. I was speechless when I looked up the sky. I could see the blurred comets moving and the stars twinkle. I would sleep outside gazing at the sky if I have the time and if I wasn't so tired. =P

We tried to take a photo of the night sky with the use of manual camera. Not sure if it turn out nice or not as we haven't seen it. It's with darling's cousin. She will be back in Chch in two weeks time.

Apparently, retailers are planning to have another Boxing Day sales in early February. If you haven't heard, earthquake came to disturb us on Boxing Day and cause few shops to close. I will be around to check out what's on sale though I won't be buying. Hehe.. maybe window shopping instead. I am more interested in checking out the laptop deals though because laptops are getting cheap and darling is thinking of upgrading his computer. His computer is 5 years old already.

Hammer

Supposed to post this first before my previous post. Oops..nvm. Anyway, as Friday was a public holiday (only in Canterbury) and the weather was very sunny, we decided to head to Hanmer Springs for the day. We actually stopped by Leithfield Beach along the way. There were more stops but because it was almost 3pm, we decided not to waste any more time and head straight to Hanmer.

cimg5995

It was quite a nice beach. I guess it wasn't too popular as there weren't a lot of people. Just the people who live nearby goes there.

cimg6017

Lol, it was hard to take a nice photo with both of us in, looking nice. =P  This is the best shot I can find. Apparently, they are upgrading the place and adding new pools and slides. It will be open in February so I am waiting patiently to go on the slides. Hehehe.. I still like to go on water slides. =P

Hubby's first time kayak

It's not exactly a holiday that we decided to go kayak in the Avon river in the city. Just preparing ourselves for the upcoming kayak trip in 3 months time. =)

So yeah, it was actually hubby's first time kayaking. I think he was quite nervous when he got in the kayak and scared of overturning. He tried kayaking when he was 9 years old and overturned. Lol

cimg6020

I pushed his kayak away from me few times when we 'bumped' into each other and he kept saying, no don't push. Scared of overturning. lol lol lol After one hour of kayaking, I suppose we are quite ready to kayak in the ocean huh? =P

cimg6025

Our pants got wet just by kayaking. Well, there wasn't anything to cover ourselves just for kayaking in the river. I think even if we overturn, we would be able to get up or if at the deeper part of the river, someone would be around to save us. Hehehe.. if say the ocean, then obviously you would be scared. There's so many things out there that can scare anyone. Can't bring technology with us when we go kayak in case overturn. Then, I guess we can't bring St. Moritz watches either. I don't want to try bringing them along anyway, just in case. Hohoho..

Easter weekend

cimg5760

Whoops.. I was meant to post this up last week. I for it from work and have a look at the photo below. The chocolate is so cute. I still ate them even though the bunnies look so cute.

cimg5763

Talking about Easter, I know it is a long weekend. 4 long days.

No shopping though. Save money. So what can we do? Hmm.. maybe go to the park.

I got sick so I can't eat any bunny chocolate. Sigh.. Well it is better to get sick now than later before family coming over. It won't be fun and I won't enjoy knowing that I am sick when family are here. Just looking at the brochores for going somewhere makes me feel like going on holiday. Speaking of holidays, lately there are a lot of adverts on cheap flights. There is one on jetstar going to brisbane or is it Gold Coast for $119 one way. That is super cheap, I think.

Back

I am back from the hiatus. No, I haven't upload photos to the computer yet. I have lots to do between now and me boarding the plane. =)

  • clean/vacuum my room and change bedsheets & duvets

  • packed everything in the room into boxes and container

  • do some food shopping

  • pack for holiday

  • catch up with friends who are going back for the summer

Ok, that doesn't look like a lot of things to do. Oh..

  • upload photos in facebook and tag ICF exec

  • blog about my trip to Hamner Springs and of thoughts =)

Now, does that look a lot? I am taking my time this time though.

  • Look for houses to stay in next year

Forgot that. It seems like we couldn't find any houses as those houses are available for now. Looks like we probably only have to start looking in January and find houses by the time my soon-to-flatmate and my current flatmate comes back. Check out vessel sinks?

Miri

I should mention about my Miri trip. I normally stay at home in the afternoon, trying to avoid the heat and stand in front of the fan. I woke up really early at 7am every morning, either had breakfast at home or go out for breakfast. I miss the food. =( I had my IC renewed, hair cut, visited my aunt and uncle at their office but they were on leave and had my new specs frame. I met few friends who were free and were in Miri, which was great. That week Friday night, Ning jie took me and Lynnw out, walking around Bintang Plaza. I had my waffles with peanut butter. =)

Oh yea, I had waffles in Mid-valley and guess what they gave me. Peanut butter + butter. My facial expression changed when I took a bite. Is it me or how I speak? It was really weird. I was so tempted to buy a waffles maker to bring back. I wanted to eat waffles for breakfast. =) But then again, I would be sick of waffles if I had it everyday.

My drink. I forgot what was the name of the drink already. I know there was longan inside though. =)

p/s If you need personal care stuff, you should check out Rubis. They have a range of things that you may like and they has free shipping too.

Splashing on..

When lynnx took me and lynnw to Low Yat, I had no idea of what to buy. I didn't mind walking around places, looking at things. That was how I bought my mp3 player. I was told that I should make up my mind of what to buy when I arrive there because if I don't, the sellers would trick you into choosing or buying lousy brand or anything. I wanted to buy a bigger space of flash memory stick but in the end, I did not buy. I thought I have too many and I shouldn't splash so much $$.

dsc06540-copy.jpg

Lynnx bought a DS Lite for Lynna. It's baby blue colour. It's nicer than pink. Ivy had one too, and it is in pink. Too bad she did not have Most Wanted: Racing. I would have wonderful time playing that game during my supposedly summer. But I did not spent my time playing on Lynna's DS Lite. Not just because of Most Wanted. I wanted to spend my time for something else. =)

flash memory

My new mp3 player

It's back to uni this week and it's all about classes. Sigh.. I sat in classes, looking blur and the lecturers are talking very fast. Oh yea, I bought an mp3 player that has the recording feature. I should consider record the lecturer talking in class, then I won't miss anything at all. Well, you wouldn't remember every single thing the lecturer said in class after the class finish, right? I am sure everyone also daydream in class. =)

zen-stone-plus.jpg

Talking about buying stuff, I wanted to buy earrings when I was in Miri. But I refrained myself. I thought I got more than enough of earrings. =) But you know those clip on earrings are so tempting and I wanted to buy very much. How I managed to stop the temptation, I think I just walked away. But I did buy earstuds for myself. =)

clip on earrings

I don't like the earphones provided by the mp3 player. I guess I use the earphones of my phone too much to change different kind of earphones. Actually, I still prefer to use my phone mp3. I wanted to change because I don't want to use my phone as mp3 because I would be charging it too often and that would spoil my precious phone. =)

Back

I am back in Christchurch already. =)  I wanted to blog when I transit-ed in Changi airport but couldn't remember the url for this blog login. I went back to using my blogger instead. Anyway, flight was alright apart from being bouncy because of bad weather and turbulence. I couldn't get enough sleep and was grumpy when the bouncy-ness disturbed my sleep. I still did not sleep when I arrived Christchurch. If I did sleep, I wouldn't be able to sleep that night. Anyhow, I went to bed early last night and slept for 14 hours. Something I haven't done for so long. I did get up in the middle of my sleep. Someone texted me. 'Mengacau'. I also woke up to hear numerous knocks downstairs. It was the postman, came so early in the morning. 'Mengacau'.

Results out already. Argh..

Anyway, I really enjoyed my holidays back in M'sia. Thank you to lynnx for coming to pick me up from KLIA on last minute changes to my flight. Didn't really expect me to arrive in KLIA right? Hahaha.. Thank you, yiyi (lynnx's mum) for buying air ticket for me to go to Miri last minute when I was in KL. I was prepared to stay in KL for 2 weeks with lynnx that time when yiyi said she can buy me air ticket to go to Miri. I am really thankful that I can go to Miri to see other cousins and also cute Shoobie.

This is my new frames and hairstyle. I still think I prefer my old hairstyle. Sigh, Igot it from International Optical. =)

So what do you think of my new hairstyle? I wanted to have a shorter fringe and shorter layered hair and it turned out to be like that. I don't know whether to feel regret or satisfied with the new hairstyle. I guess I will be covering it up when I get back. I wanted to wear a hat to cover my hair but

was told that people doesn't wear hat in Miri because people will wonder why and thought that something must be wrong.

I left this kind of frames to new one above.

Till now

On Wednesday, I woke up late and online while waiting for cousin. I really felt like I slept enough that time. I don't have to set alarm to wake up. After cousin came back from class, we went to nearest Carrefour for late lunch to eat chicken rice. Yum.. I also had waffles with peanut butter. I suddenly felt like I had been craving for waffles + peanut butter for so long.

abcd0003.jpg

That evening, I followed cousin to watch them playing tennis.

On Thursday, cousin brought me to Mid Valley Megamall to start shopping. I bought few dresses that day and will be putting them up on fashionblog. =) Meet up with this cousin who flew to KL. I was supposed to fly with her to KL but change of plan in the end.

Waffles + peanut butter + me

On Friday, three of us went to Low Yat to look at electronic stuff. After we were satisfied with looking + buying, we ent back to Mid Valley to meet up with another cousin of mine and a friend of cousin for dinner.

dsc06540-copy.jpg

Saw this nice thingy so decide to take photo with it. =) Looks like a very big photo frame. Hehe..

On Saturday, we didn't go anywhere because we felt broke and stay at home to rest. Another cousin came over to see me us. Everyone chatted and just had good conversation. Because we were broke we had maggi mee for brunch. At one point, this cousin were bored and did this. I just took a photo of what he did.

p7050049-copy.jpg

On Sunday, we headed back to Mid Valley. No, this time we aren't there to shop. I was a bit sick of shopping. We went to watch Wanted. =)
