Aftershocks: update

Oh the reason that I put up this map photo is because I was very annoyed that a map can cost $12. I mean, I can buy a meal already with that. The thing is, we need to put a map in the car so in the case that we got lost, we can always refer it and get ourselves on the main road. Sometimes the small roads can lead you to nowhere.

cimg7519

Currently: Watching X factor. It's fun to watch the funny parts and the parts where some of them are getting told off. Lol

Aftershocks about 15 minutes ago. A little shaky but not like this afternoon, when the 5.0 magnitude hit. Made me feel dizzy because I was trying so hard to focus on the computer and my work. Sigh.. I got this article from stuff website. I think I need to buy some meditation cushions for myself to use at work because apparently the aftershocks are long term. They are going to be here for decades rather than years. Sigh..

Awesome

Check this out. Incredible to see the road sunk. This was taken last month before parents flew back. We went around touring with darling's best man as well as mummy and daddy. We took few photos too. Oops, I just remembered that I was suppose to send those photos to daddy. Hehehe.. I better do it as soon as possible.

Oh but then they are not going to check their email for a week so I still have time to muck around. Hehe.. it's New Year on Sunday and it's 2012. Sounds familiar? Well, one of the movies that came out in 2009 was called 2012. Some people said it's the end of the world but I won't believe it till it happens. It could just mean a new era begins, anyway.

cimg7472

Didn't really see any damage cars that might have in the danger zone.

Oh yeah, I think I forgot to say that the aqua car that we have is between brand new and second hand. We didn't have to switch plates. Well, not that I want a personalized one because it does cost a lot to get it. It's quite cool though to have personalized one because you can put your own name or whatever things that you can think of. I saw some interesting plates but I can't remember exactly what they are. When I see one, I will put it here. =) Most of the time, people put names which is common.

A way to start Christmas

What a way to start Christmas. We had 2 big aftershocks and few smaller aftershocks. During lunchtime, I was thinking if we were going to be let off early to go home and guess what, we did. Lol anyway, all were above 5 magnitude. Not sure what is the second one because none of the website mention anything.

For now, we can only hope that no more aftershocks. Or if there are, to run outside buildings as quickly as possible. Got this from stuff website. Some people are injured and power were cut. There were accidents too, I guess from the shaking of the earthquake. I tell you, the house was shaking so much when I was trying to run out. I hope Christchurch residents bought insurance rates on themselves and their things to protect themselves.

Just felt one small earthquake as of now.

Updates on earthquakes

Yup another aftershock on Tuesday night that shook Christchurch very hard. It was a 5.4 and yes, I could see the house swaying quite hard. Don't know when they will go away but oh well, they are now part of our lives. Today, the govt announced which area they are abandoning and to rebuild. It was on the news on tv but of course, I cannot watch since I was working. Anyway, there's the link on it.

I guess now is the emotional time for christchurch residents since everyone will be thinking about their homes and land or where they are going to live if they are moving away from the current house.

It's been cold lately.. Duh.. it's winter of course it is cold. At least the car didn't freeze overnight. It's been raining almost everyday this week though. Sigh.. it's so cold when we go for wing chun. I tried to put on more layers but I can't cover my hands. The hands are freezing cold.

Aftershocks are back

Yup, yesterday 2 aftershocks occurred again. We were at work and were evacuated. Some people left to go home but some stayed on and had to be evacuated again when the second one happened. Darling and I joined civil defense so we had to stay behind for a little while and making sure no one gets left behind or need any help.

The second one is quite violent, shaking the whole building hard. We just don't know when these are going to stop. I wasn't expecting something so violent but just minor shake. The traffic jam will be even worse. More people are probably going to leave Christchurch.

Businesses are interrupted again and more things are damaged. Sigh.. just going to keep praying for us yeah.

little bit on earthquakes update

I finished watching season 3 Fringe. The ending of the season really makes me want to watch the next season even more.

A little bit of update on the earthquake aftershocks. Yes, we still do feel them. Just the other day, I was at aunty's house and was drinking warm water. My water splashed on my nose and my chair moved. I thought someone pushed me. I nearly yelled out who's pushing my chair when I realised it was aftershock.

Yep, so when I was back, I told the stories of earthquakes that those shakes were nothing like the ones you experienced in the museum. You can hear the start of the vibration before the shaking. Then you either stand still till it stopped or panicked and hide under any table/desk. Lol.

I think builders must invent modern furniture that do not break so easily just for the earthquakes prone area huh. No, more like they must invent a lot of things for earthquake prone area eg like houses. Some houses have good building structure.

A little update on aftershocks

I probably will stop here and come back with more interesting posts yeah. I hope my readers keep coming back to read. There won't be any earthquake posts anymore unless there is another big one. Lol

Recently, there was a news article that says, the 22 Feb quake may be larger than we thought. Apparently, the 3 quakes that happened within 20 minutes of each other released a lot of energy. More news on the rebuilding part. I don't follow this part of the news because, one: it is boring, two: they are just about building this and that, etc no money bla bla bla..

They are also saying that they are building temporary homes for those residents who lost their homes in the quake.
The mall are so busy and crowded lately too, just because there wasn't anywhere to go and besides, Westfield Riccarton is the biggest mall in Christchurch. I think, in the South Island too. I mean, the city is where people get together to catch up, hang out or even meet someone. Now, people would have to use free online dating sites instead. Just hope it's not too troublesome for them.

Saturday, April 02, 2011

Hmm..

Shall be on a hiatus soon. Definitely will hear from me with lots of interesting posts after I come back yeah. Hoho.. I can't wait to post up about interesting things soon. Posts have been boring, huh with all the earthquake posts.

Nothing much happened for the past one month since the earthquake happened so naturally, I updated about the earthquakes from my point of view. The news articles revealed more as they are at the site.

I don't think most Chch residents are allowed into the cordon area. If they did, they probably got arrested.

Last night and today, Christchurch was rocked by a string of earthquakes. I didn't felt any. Maybe I got so used to it. It wasn't that strong though people have felt it. Can't really get home automation at the moment because aftershocks still occur. Sigh..

Earthquakes updates

The earthquakes have quieten down. I should think the smaller shocks are still going on but we cannot feel the big ones anymore.

There aren't a lot of news on the earthquakes too. Just the ones about getting survivors out and the rebuilding part of the city.

Oh there are few articles on the geological faults and what they have found out. It is hard to determine the faults. After all, we are humans, not God. We only do what is best for us and prepare ourselves for the future.

Like with the emergency kit, we can only prepare ourselves for when the event happen, we react to it. Yeah? Yup. No point in getting hand dryers or any other electronic stuff. Oh yeah, we're supposed to get a battery operated radio to add into emergency kit but I couldn't find it. I was thinking, nowadays shops don't sell such things because you can to use it on ur ipod or your phone. Ahh.. that is not battery operated right?

Life

Abandoned the blog for too long. Well, have been busy lately. I have been attending wing chun classes almost everyday. Not Friday though because the venue is only booked from Monday to Thursday.

I learnt a lot during these two weeks because we went from Monday to Thursday and were there for 2 hours. There weren't a lot of beginners so the seniors can teach you one on one and go through every detail.

Lately, haven't been feeling the earthquakes. Hopefully they are gone forever. I can't feel the small ones though. I am paranoid because I stop at what I am doing to feel the earthquakes when I feel vibration of the road, house or building.

Lol, everyone definitely need emergency assistance in the event of a big strong earthquake, right? Just the other day, darling's aunty was telling me about the last few bodies being pull out from the collapsed building in city. Gosh, it has been a month, you know. Sigh.. earthquakes earthquakes..

Sunday, March 27, 2011

??

20th March is over and there was only a 5.1 jolt last night. I was told that the prediction was at noon. So? What happened to the prediction? I knew humans cannot predict the unknown.

Seriously, the moon man really scared a lot of people. Ok, so maybe he sort of did 'force' lazy people like me to prepare emergency kit for future use.

From the article, a lot of people slammed comments at the skeptics and the moon man. Well, whatever lah. Yes people has freedom of speech. He is allowed to talk about this and skeptics are also allowed to talk back at him too. Both are freedom of speech anyway. It's just like, I say you and you say me. No one wins.

Oops, this post was supposed to be posted up a day after but I totally forgot about it. Lol, time for me to play some chamilia beads because I need a break from these earthquakes news.

20 March

I think I have mentioned before about the prediction from the moon man. Tomorrow is the 20th March. I have, in fact prepare emergency kit. But that doesn't mean I believe him. It could be true or it could not be true.

Anyway, I still need to prepare emergency kit even if there is no big earthquake. It's for our own good as we don't know what is going to happen next. Look at the initial earthquake. I thought there weren't going to be a big destructive one like the 22nd February.

I never prepared any emergency kit in the event of an earthquake. I didn't think there would be any earthquake in Christchurch. Lucky I had already finished my study and had my graduation ceremony in town and took photos. Now there isn't much to do in Christchurch since the city is gone. Not even sure if the surface raceways for motorkart is alright or not. I had wanted to go there sometime in January but had to postpone it since there wasn't a lot of friends around.

The motorkart is more fun with lots of people. There must be cracks on the roads so sigh..

Oh oh, it is the 20th March today. Haven't felt any tremors yet though.

More earthquakes

I think my blog is becoming more of earthquake posts. Last night, while watching normal news, they announced that there have been just another big massive earthquake in Japan. Apparently, the earthquake generate a 10-metre tsunami. At that moment, I thought if it was in Christchurch, everything would have been gone. It was 8.8 some more.

The death toll is just going up since they haven't confirm yet. Sigh... it was just 2 weeks ago that we were hit by earthquake. More funeral planning to do huh. I feel so overwhelmed by these earthquakes.

I was just like, gosh, there's so many earthquakes going on. I think just one hour ago, we found out there was another earthquake off the coast of Tonga.

I have this theory that it was the pacific plate being subducted into the earth, hence the many many earthquakes.

Earthquake updates

Update: Still experiencing aftershocks. Some of us may feel dizzy due to it. We still have to be alert in case any aftershocks that last longer, we have to get out of the building that we're in.

The death toll went up to 166 over the weekend. Let's hope that they do not find any more bodies yeah and pray for those who have lost their family member/relatives or friends.

I may have mentioned that Wellington has, so far experienced 2 earthquakes. Not sure what might have cause it though. Just that we should be all prepared, eg earthquake kits. Make sure we don't stand in any medicine cabinets or shelves because when it falls, it will hurt very much. Run, duck and hide. =)

Oh yeah, check out this article. A boulder that falls into a house here sell for $10,050.

cimg6490

Check this out. It's half the size of my face huh? My mouth is definitely smaller and I don't think I can take a big bite. Those who knows me well, know that I always like to take big bites for my food.

A week on

Update day 8: It has been a week on and the death toll has gone up to 154. They said it's not a rescue operation anymore, more than recovery of the bodies. I guess they think it is hard to survive in the rubbles for so many days.

I guess so, because humans can survive without water for only 3 days and 7 days without food. The death toll is still going to rise though. Some people are still missing.

So much for wanting to find a better pay job huh, there is a short term recession in Christchurch due to this strong earthquake.

Update on day 11: So far the death toll has gone up to 163. The city cordon is going to shrink by a little bit. Those who lives in the city could go over and take their belongings.

These aftershocks are still happening. I think it was today's aftershock that brings down more rocks. Sigh.. Probably will go on for a year before these starts to settle. Friend's house in New Brighton haven't even got power or water. Their carpet still smells. Am thinking of recommending carpet cleaners raleigh nc to them but not sure if the house is livable.

Getting back to normality

Update Day 7: The death toll has gone up to 147, I just checked the press news. Some people are back to work today. I am. Trying to get back to normality, though things aren't normal.

Some businesses are operating. Just check out this site and you can read lots of news on the earthquakes. Just now, we were watching Campbell live. John Campbell interviewed Ken Ring, someone who predicted the earthquakes by the moon. Hard to believe la but what if it is true. Gosh, they went out of topic on qualifications and I thought they were going to pick a fight with each other.

Some people are telling me about their stories/experiences about the earthquakes. A friend mentioned that he was just walking in the park when he heard bang bang bang. It was the buildings collapsing. What a sight huh. A lot of people lost their life in the CTV building that collapsed. Time to get online life insurance quotes. It may not be too late for some people as Ken Ring predicted there is a big strong earthquake on the 20th of March. I don't know whether to believe or not but I am definitely getting prepared.

Not to say yes, I believe. There is no harm in preparing for the next one. You never know if there is a big one or not. Might as well get prepared right? That is, if you don't want to leave Christchurch la.

Day 5

Update day 5: The death toll has gone up to 123 and 200+ are still missing. City CBD could be shut for 'months'. Sigh.. They said the city is to be rebuilt.

The rebuilding is going to take many years. I mean, it takes many many years to build a city. So to rebuild the entire city, it will take even longer because the building structure would have to be good.

So far, the events that are held in the city has to be cancelled eg there was supposed to be flower event but now, cancelled. For those who are going to miss it, can get Baltimore flower delivery lah.. hahahaha.. another choice to go for if cannot order flowers from the flower events.

Just check thepress.co.nz site for more news for more details. I got all these infos from the tv news anyway.

Day 3 and 4

Just updating more on the earthquakes. I don't know how much they put on the international news for the world to see.

The death toll has gone up to 113 and 200+ people are still missing. More rescue people are sent in to look for survivors. Rescuers also need to rest after 12 hour shift. But since Wednesday noon, they haven't found any survivors. Sigh..

I got all these from the news. We have been watching news everyday at home. The city centre is cordoned off so we're not allowed to go. I think most people go out from their house just to get water and food supply, hence you do see people walking about.

There are food supply in the supermarkets so we're told not to worry about this. I can hear the helicopters flying about in the air every day. Just this morning, I heard a loud air craft flying over the house. Could be the rescuers who arrived to take over the shift.

The start of my year

cimg6461
Damn, I actually drafted out this post and lost it when I was about to post it. Stupid internet connection. All because of the earthquake.

Darling looks awkward in the photo above. What a start to my 24th year, huh? It will be something that I will never forget in my life. So far, I have experience 2 earthquakes but one is more destructive. House is ok just messy and the water tank leaks. Oh it's not leaking so much right now though.

We were talking the other night with aunt that we must really cherish and enjoy our life as much as possible. Like this earthquake, it was something unexpected and some people who were in city that day lost their life. Sigh.. now I am wondering if anyone is watching the earthquake news.

I drove around trying to buy milk today and they ran out of it. Lol I never had to do this and now.. I was just saying that we better stock up more food. Not sure if best creatine powder works for us but let's have a look la.

Disaster strike

Lol, didn't expect the earthquake to be so strong yesterday when it happened. Yep, working and were in a building. I was just standing and waiting for the earthquake to stop. But when it didn't stop, one of my colleague said hide under the desk. I could feel the building shook really hard. The building where I work didn't fall. Good structural building. =)

Lucky we didn't work in the city too. The city has more damage. Just watch the news on tv and you know already. Some of the suburbs have got damage but not so much.

Anyway, PM announce 5 days state of emergency. No one is working and residents are urged to stay at home. So we're just watching the news at home and waiting to see what's next.
Photobucket

This is just one of the many mess in the house. Lots of cleaning to do yeah. Hohoho..

Like I said before, no need to worry about getting any weightlosspills.org to lose weight because these cleaning and our new hobby interest will keep us fit and healthy. And of course we must eat healthy food too.
